New technology opens huge windows of opportunity for the digital marketeer.
Are you watching the trends closely? Is this the next step in screen technology:
While malleable screens may seem a long way off, the mainstream commercial use of transparent LCD screens and systems such as Microsoft Surface could be just around the corner. In terms of marketing applications though, what does it mean?
Consider the possibility of shop windows with adverts, or demonstrations of products sitting behind glass; posting up sales and discounts at different points in the day to drive people in. Entire buildings could become billboards.
Link these screens in with Bluetooth or Smart phone technology and the classic shop window can become a powerful display tool, which knows when a returning customer may be near the store, or even looking through the window. The communications projected on the window can then be tailored accordingly.
As can be seen in the above video, the possibilities for technology like Microsoft Surface are enormous. It can read coupons and detect what is being placed on it.
This clip shows the possibilities of sharing branded content and experiences in an engaging manner, in this case with Red Bull.
It is definitely an exciting time for screen technology and, as with many products and technologies of this nature, as the cost to businesses falls, we will begin to see this technology used more and more in our own high streets.
